Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)

In order to enter a university in Korea, you need to take the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) given by the National Institute for International Education.

The purpose of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) is to provide directions for learning Korean to foreigners who are not native speakers of Korean language, measure their proficiency in Korean language, and use the results for studying abroad and employment.

⊙TOPIK Level

* Your TOPIK level is determined by your test score.

  • Beginner TOPIK Ⅰ 1 2
  • Intermediate/Advanced TOPIK Ⅱ 3 4 5 6

⊙TOPIK level required for admission/graduation from university

* The requirements below are general standards.

  • Regular bachelor's degree program
    • Requirement for admission: Level 3 or above
      TOPIK Ⅱ 3 4 5 6
    • Requirement for graduation: Level 4 or above
      TOPIK Ⅱ 4 5 6

Please contact each university for the TOPIK level required for exchange students, government-invited scholarship students, foreign government-supported scholarship students, students enrolled in Korean language training institutes, and students enrolled in arts and physical education departments.

⊙Korean language proficiency test schedules

  • PBT (held 6 times a year)
    • - January, April, May, July, October, November
  •  
  • IBT and speaking assessment (conducted three times a year)
    • - March, June, September
