때는 2009년 10월 15일, 한국정부초청장학생으로 선발된 뒤 조금 늦게 한국에 도착하였다. 인천 공항에 도착하였지만 사실 어디로 가야할지 몰랐다. 나는 원광대에서 어학연수를 받기로 되어있었는데, 공항에 도착하여 원광대학교의 담당자인 정재훈 선생님과 연락이 닿았다. 선생님께서는 익산터미널까지 버스를 통하여 오는 방법을 알려주셨고, 터미널까지 친히 마중 나와주셨다. 쌀쌀한 가을 바람과 은행나무잎, 울긋불긋한 단풍잎들이 바람에 흩날리는 풍경은 지금까지도 따뜻한 느낌으로 마음 속에 남아있다. 기숙사에 도착한 뒤로, 선생님께서는 필요한 것들과 식사권을 준비해주셨다. 이때 선생님께 감사함을 느꼈던 것으로 기억한다. 어학연수 시절에 다녀왔던 에버랜드 놀이동산, 해운대, 전주는 정말 행복했다. 원광대에서의 어학연수 1년 후, 석사과정 진학을 위하여 서울의 건국대학교로 이동하게 되었다. 지금 많은 시간이 지났지만, 아직도 추억 속에서 살아가는 것만 같다. 시간이 흐르고 있음에도, 마음 한 켠에는 변하지 않는 게 있는데, 그건 바로 사랑, 기억, 추억 그리고 고마움인 것 같다. 단 하나 마음이 아프고 아쉬운 건, 정재훈 선생님과 많은 시간을 보냈지만, 컴퓨터가 고장나게 되어, 현재 사진 한 장마저 남아있지 않다는 점이다. 훗날 기회가 된다면, 선생님을 찾아뵙고 인사드리며, 사진도 함께 찍고 싶다. 이미 선생님과의 모습이 마음속에 새겨져 있지만 말이다.

I arrived in Korea on October 15, 2009, which was a bit late considering the dates for the academic year. Once I arrived at Incheon International Airport, I had no idea where I had to go. I was registered for a language training program at Wonkwang University (WU), and so I contacted Jeong Jae-hun, the employee in charge of GKS students at WU, as soon as I arrived at the airport. Mr. Jeong not only told me how to take the bus to Iksan Bus Terminal, but also came to the terminal to meet me. I can still remember the crisp fall air, yellow ginkgo leaves, and beautiful brightly colored foliage I saw that day. After reaching the dormitory, Mr. Jeong gave me some supplies and a set of meal coupons, for which I was very grateful! While at WU, I took trips to Everland, Haeundae Beach, and Jeonju, all of which I enjoyed immensely. After one year of language study at WU, I transferred to Konkuk University, which is in Seoul, to start my master’s degree. Many years have passed since my stay in Korea, but my memories from that time are still very much alive. No matter how much time goes by, there are things in one part of my heart that will never change: love, memories, and gratitude. One thing that I regret and saddens me very much is that, because of a computer failure, all I have to remind me of Mr. Jeong (with whom I spent a lot of time) is one photo. If I get the chance later, I would really like to see Mr. Jeong again and thank him for everything he did to make my stay at WU more comfortable and take more pictures together! Even though, of course, Mr. Jeong is already a permanent part of my memories.
