2023-2025 GKS 홍보사절 Ramakanta Lamichhane의 Memory of Korea(Nepal)

It was an awesome program that I took part during my stay in Korea as GKS scholar. I was attending the language program at that time and it had been few months that I had came to Korea. I was feeling different environment in Korea as it was a new place for me. Actually I was exploring every new things in Korea. My new journey in Korea started from Wonkwang University, Iksan, Jeonbuk. I was living in hostel and the language course was going on. In my language we have around ten students and almost all of them were GKS scholar 2010. However around 50 % had to move to Jeonbuk University located nearby for master/Ph.D. courses while remaining including me had to pursue the master’s degree in the same university after completing the language course of one year.
One day a teacher came to our class and announced about a program in which we could take part. She told us that it was a three day program and we could stay there in a resort and around thousand international students around whole korea would take part in the program. We were so excited to hear the news and felt like to take part as soon as possible.
Then finally the day, i.e. Oct 10, 2010 came and we packed our materials for a three-day trip in Muju Resort. We reached the place in the afternoon and we were given yellow jackets. We could see huge number of students gathered to the place. Next day we gathered in a big hall. We could see performances from different international students. Then we had a great lunch together. At night we friends from Wonkwang University had a party in our room. It was so fun.
The last day of the program we had dance party. It went till midnight. There was also some performaces on the stage. I and my Australian friend also desired to perform and gave our name. We had practiced for it. I had taught him a Neapli song. He was smart enough to memorize it. He sang the song on the stage. At the same time, I was on the stage to dance when he sang. It was so funny and everybody liked it. I will never forget this memory.
Then we returned from the Muju resort to Wonkwang. While returning back, there was a big event in Jeonju, in which people were preparing “bibimbab” in a huge pot so that large number of people could eat. We got a chance to eat. It was delicious. We were walking and talking while eating it. It was also a memorable event for us.
Likewise we had many fun events during our language course. We got chance to visit different places in Korea. We visited different places in Iksan and Jeonju. We also used to organize different events in our university. Once our teacher invited us to her house where we prepared different food and enjoyed a lot. Some friends made their cultural food which was unique and tasty also. We became so friendly and close to each other.
Now when I remember those moments, it seems like dream. Those moments are so special for me. I still have conversation with those friends through Facebook and other social networks. Some friends are in Korea still now even though most of them have returned to their home countries. Whenever I go to Korea I try to meet them and talk to them. I miss my Wonkwang university. Whenever I visit Wonkwang university, I remember those moments with my GKS friends.It was an awesome program that I took part during my stay in Korea as GKS scholar. 제가 한국에 GKS 장학생으로 있을 때 참여한 프로그램은 정말 멋졌습니다. 그 당시 저는 언어 프로그램에 참여하고 있었고, 한국에 온 지 몇 달 밖에 되지 않았습니다. 한국은 새로운 환경이라 많이 다르게 느껴졌고, 저는 한국에서 모든 새로운 것을 탐험하고 있었습니다. 제 한국에서의 새로운 여정은 전북 익산에 있는 원광대학교에서 시작되었습니다. 저는 기숙사에서 지내고 있었고, 언어 과정이 진행 중이었습니다. 제 반에는 약 10명의 학생이 있었고, 그 중 대부분은 2010년 GKS 장학생들이었습니다. 그러나 약 50%는 가까운 전북대학교에서 석사/박사 과정으로 이동해야 했고, 나머지 학생들, 저를 포함한 학생들은 언어 과정을 1년 동안 마친 후 같은 대학에서 석사 과정을 이어갔습니다.

어느 날 선생님이 우리 반에 와서 참여할 수 있는 프로그램에 대해 발표하셨습니다. 이 프로그램은 3일간 진행되는 프로그램으로, 리조트에서 머무는 기회가 주어지고, 전국의 천 명의 국제 학생들이 참여한다고 하셨습니다. 우리는 그 소식을 듣고 매우 흥분했고, 가능한 빨리 참여하고 싶다는 마음이 들었습니다.

그리고 마침내 2010년 10월 10일, 우리는 3일 간의 Muju 리조트 여행을 준비하며 짐을 쌌습니다. 우리는 오후에 그곳에 도착했고, 노란 자켓을 받았습니다. 그곳에는 많은 학생들이 모여 있었습니다. 다음 날, 우리는 큰 홀에서 모였고, 다양한 국제 학생들의 공연을 볼 수 있었습니다. 그 후에는 모두 함께 맛있는 점심을 먹었습니다. 밤에는 원광대학교 친구들과 우리 방에서 파티를 했습니다. 정말 재미있었습니다.

프로그램의 마지막 날에는 댄스 파티가 있었습니다. 파티는 자정까지 이어졌습니다. 그 무대에서도 몇 가지 공연이 있었습니다. 저와 제 호주 친구도 공연을 하고 싶어 이름을 올렸습니다. 우리는 이를 위해 연습을 했고, 저는 그에게 네팔 노래를 가르쳐주었습니다. 그는 그 노래를 잘 외워서 무대에서 노래를 불렀습니다. 그와 동시에 저는 그가 노래하는 동안 춤을 추고 있었죠. 정말 웃기고 모두가 즐거워했습니다. 이 기억은 절대 잊을 수 없습니다.

그 후 우리는 Muju 리조트에서 원광대로 돌아갔습니다. 돌아오는 길에는 전주에서 큰 비빔밥 행사가 열리고 있었고, 많은 사람들이 거대한 솥에서 비빔밥을 준비하고 있었습니다. 우리는 그 비빔밥을 먹을 기회를 얻었고, 정말 맛있었습니다. 우리는 비빔밥을 먹으면서 이야기하며 걸었습니다. 그것도 우리에게는 또 하나의 기억에 남을 만한 사건이었습니다.

이와 같이 언어 과정 동안 우리는 많은 재미있는 활동들을 했습니다. 우리는 한국의 여러 곳을 방문할 기회도 가졌습니다. 익산과 전주에 있는 다양한 장소들을 방문했습니다. 또한 대학에서 여러 가지 행사를 조직하기도 했습니다. 어느 날 선생님이 우리를 집으로 초대하여 다양한 음식을 준비하고 즐겼습니다. 몇몇 친구들은 자신들의 고유한 문화를 담은 음식을 만들어서 그것도 정말 맛있었습니다. 우리는 서로 친해지고 가까워졌습니다.

지금 이 순간들을 떠올리면 꿈처럼 느껴집니다. 그 순간들은 저에게 정말 특별합니다. 저는 여전히 그 친구들과 Facebook과 다른 소셜 네트워크를 통해 연락을 유지하고 있습니다. 몇몇 친구들은 아직도 한국에 있지만, 대부분은 본국으로 돌아갔습니다. 한국에 가면 그들과 만나고 대화하려고 합니다. 원광대학교가 그리워요. 원광대학교를 방문할 때마다 GKS 친구들과 함께했던 그 순간들이 떠오릅니다.
