Introduction to Korean Regions
Korea’s administrative divisions currently consist of 1 Special City, 6 Metropolitan Cities, 1 Special Self-Governing City, 6 Provinces, and 3 Special Self-Governing Provinces.
The administrative system is divided into three levels: Province/Special City/Metropolitan City > City/County/District > Town/Township/Neighborhood.
In cities with populations exceeding 500,000 (excluding Seoul Special City and the Metropolitan Cities), administrative districts may be established under the city level.
Administrative divisions equivalent to provinces include Metropolitan Cities, Special Cities, Special Self-Governing Cities, and Special Self-Governing Provinces. The list is as follows
