When to Register as a Foreigner
- Foreigners intending to stay in Korea for more than 90 days must register within 90 days of their entry.

Foreigners granted stay status or change of stay permission must register immediately upon receiving the permission.
e.g If a Canadian national with a B-2 (Transit) visa applies for a stay status change after staying for 5 months, they must register as a foreigner when submitting the application for stay status change.

Exceptions to Foreigner Registration
- The following foreigners are exempt from foreigner registration
- - Diplomats, government officials, or individuals under agreements (A-1, A-2, A-3 visas).
- - Individuals engaged in critical diplomatic, industrial, or national defense duties and their families, as well as others deemed exempt by the Minister of Justice.
- - Nationals of Canada entering without a visa for stays of less than 6 months.

What is a Change of Stay Status?
This refers to situations where a foreigner residing in Korea wishes to stop activities related to their current stay status and engage in activities under a different stay status.
Application Period
- Before engaging in activities corresponding to the new stay status.
- For foreigners with diplomatic, official, or agreement stay statuses, within 30 days from the date their status changes.

What is a Stay Period Extension?
Foreigners who wish to continue staying in Korea beyond their previously approved stay period must obtain permission to extend their stay period.

What is a Report of Address Change?
Foreigners who have registered as residents must report their address change within 15 days of moving to a new residence.
Cases for Application
- When registering as a foreign resident or reporting a domestic residence as an overseas Korean with a foreign national.
- When the address of a registered foreign resident or domestic residence reporter changes.
- When applying for a stay period extension.
- When applying for a stay status change (mandatory for short-term stay status changing to long-term stay status).
- When applying for a change to permanent residence status.
Deadline for Report
Within 15 days from the date of moving to a new residence.
※ Failure to report an address change within 15 days by a registered foreign resident constitutes a violation of Article 36 of the Immigration Act and may result in a fine of up to 1 million KRW.
Where to Report
The head of the local immigration office or foreigner management office with jurisdiction over the new residence, or at the local township/municipality office of the new residence.

Part-Time Work for International Students (Part-Time Jobs)
Basic Principles : Generally limited to part-time employment activities performed by students (e.g., simple labor).
- For employment activities specified in [Annex 1-2] of the Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Act, individual guidelines for each qualification apply (e.g., English Program Teach and Learn in Korea(TaLK) , conversational instructors, professional interpreters/translators).
- Private tutoring activities are strictly regulated, taking into account the specificity of location, target, etc.
Approval Process

Step 1. Prepare an Employment Contract
Employment contract between the parties (standard employment contract, hourly wage must be stated).

Step 2. Prepare a Part-Time Employment Confirmation Form
Complete the designated form, signed by the university’s international student advisor.

Step 3. Application Submission
Submit required documents either online or in person.

Step 4. Approval or Rejection
Receive an approval sticker or print the permit online.
Eligibility
Individuals with a certain level of Korean language proficiency and confirmation from the university’s international student advisor.
- Applicable to individuals holding the following study stay statuses: D-2-1 to D-2-4, D-2-6, D-2-7.
- Those with language training (D-4-1, D-4-7) status or visiting student (D-2-8) status after 6 months from the date of qualification change (or entry date for visa holders).

Exceptions to Part-Time Employment Authorization (subject except permission)
Activities receiving temporary rewards, prizes, or compensation incidental to daily life that do not violate the fundamental nature of study stay status do not require separate authorization.
Penalties for Unauthorized Employment
If you work without obtaining part-time employment permission or violate the conditions of your permitted employment, you will be penalized under the law.
※ For illegal employment in the construction sector, deportation orders are issued without exception, regardless of the number of violations. However, entry restrictions may be deferred.
Work-Learning Linked Study Visa (D-2-7) for Government Scholarship Students
Graduates with D-2-7 status are exempt from applying national employment ratios and company size restrictions when changing to E-7 (Specific Activity) status. Broader job categories are permitted.

What is a Job-Seeking Visa Change?
This visa allows international students who have completed their studies in Korea or foreigners seeking new employment to legally stay in Korea. It must be changed to a job-seeking visa (D-10-1), which is issued to foreigners wishing to work in Korea.
Duration for Job-Seeking Visa (D-10-1)
The D-10-1 visa allows for internship programs before formal employment and is intended for job-seeking activities in professional fields corresponding to E-1 to E-7 qualifications. (Manual labor or unskilled work is not permitted.) Once employment is confirmed, the visa must be changed to one that aligns with the employment type.
Application Period
Can be extended in 6-month increments, up to a maximum of 2 years.
(Within the 2-year limit, internship employment is allowed for a maximum of 1 year, with a 6-month limit per company.)
Required Documents
Documents prescribed by the Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Control Act.
- Common Documents (Application form, photo, copy of passport, fee, and copy of ID card).
- Job-Seeking Activity Plan (details of job-seeking activities over the past 6 months and future plans).
- Proof of Korean language proficiency and career certificates (if applicable).
- Degree certificate.

Proof of financial stability (minimum monthly living expenses: 900,000 KRW x 6 months = approx. 5,400,000 KRW).
Note: Those changing from study (D-2) to job-seeking (D-10) status for the first time are exempt from submitting proof of financial stability. - Proof of residence (e.g., lease agreement).
